Local man selected to fight parliamentary election12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 30th Mar 2009 The Liberal Democrats have selected their candidate to fight the constituency of Banbury at the next general election. He is David Rundle, who has strong family connections with the seat and lives nearby in Oxford. David, 39, commented: 'I am delighted to represent my party in this constituency which I have known all my life.' David's mother was born and bred in Banbury and his parents now live in Bodicote. Chair of Banbury Constituency Liberal Democrats, Martin Squires, welcomed the selection: 'David will be an outstanding candidate for us at the next General Election. His strong local knowledge combined with an approachable personality would make him an excellent MP for Banbury and Bicester.' David added: 'There many local issues on which this constituency needs a liberal voice to be heard -- whether it's the hare-brained government scheme for an eco-town or Tory-imposed cuts on local services. What, of course, is at the front of everyone's mind is the present economic bust after years of unsustainable boom. It is said that this constituency has the highest level of employment in the country but that statistic shouldn't hide the fact that they are pockets of deprivation and challenges to face as the credit crunch bites.' David, 39, an historian by profession, has significant political experience, having been a councillor for seven years. He was for two years Deputy Leader of Oxford City Council.
